By the very coincidence the hotel I stayed in in Copenhagen was about 600m away from the flagship store Magasin du Nord on Kongens Nytorv, one of the most famous Danish chain stores.
At the first sight I thought it was a... hotel. And it was a hotel but long time ago.
Till 1870 the building hosted Hotel du Nord. The most famous Dane, Hans Christian Andersen, used to stay there numerous times.
Since 1870, the company settled by Theodor Wessel and Emil Vett rented some space in the building. It was such a great success so in 20 years the company had taken over the entire hotel. Impressive though! The building might be compared to the NY Bloomingdales or Harrods in London. I like its a bit old-fashion style.
The interior is so... classy and majestic!

I noticed that Danes like a lot vintage style. Plenty of items refer to that style, yet being modern and classy. The so-called Nordic minimalism. What is also remarkable is the attention to the environment. Therefore many shops offer organic clothes. Focussed on sustainability and protection of nature, Danes often shop in the second-hand boutiques. Flea markets are at present one of the most popular events, where you can do an excellent bargains on clothes, interior decoration, toys, antiques and many more ;-)
